Just Keep Swimming…
The journey toward your goal is going to be filled with obstacles. There’s no way around it, but those obstacles help prepare you for the next thing—whatever your next thing happens to be. When I was looking for work in the animation industry, it wasn’t as easy as you might think. It is a relatively small, but extremely competitive industry, where your talent speaks for you.
I was in my 20s, fresh out of art school, when I began attempting to break into the industry. Believe me, I really had no idea what I was doing. However, the one thing I did know was to keep moving forward. I somehow knew that moving forward was my only option—mostly because going backwards wasn’t an option. I knew going backwards meant having to start over and I absolutely DIDN’T want to do that. As my relationship with God increased over the years, I realized that Jesus was the reason I knew to keep moving forward.
Jesus is always moving forward. He never wants us to have regrets or to look back longingly at our past. We can certainly learn from the past and be grateful, but we aren’t meant to stay there. We are meant to keep moving forward. The apostle Paul says it like this:
‘...but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.' Philippians 3:13b-14 NLT
So keep using your God-given gifts to move forward toward your goal—the ultimate prize. Jesus wants you to get that reward!
